Do you like partying like we do?
We have been so lucky to have met a large group of families who like partying as much as we do here in British Columbia. And we do go wild once in a while 🙂 We do costumes, games, prizes and so on… Lots of it is thanks to one of our friends who likes organizing events, and we must admit she is really good at it! She helped us organize our wedding anniversary a couple of years ago, and it was unforgettable. We feel lucky to have such a friend! We like picking up a theme and try to stick to it. Sometimes. Lol. Last year we had a great Halloween party and I want to share a round up of a few last-minute Halloween costume and decor ideas 😉

I am so excited to share this post with you! As I have mentioned, we like parties! I will also show you that if you are on a budget you don’t need to spend a ton to be a party star. Lol
Halloween Costumes and Decor Ideas
As I have mentioned above, I like the idea of theme-coordinating costumes with friends or a family. Last year we had met a family of 5 all wearing minions’ costumes. It was super cute!
Even at my workplace, we have had coordinated our outfits. Two years ago we were a clerks-biker-gang wearing cool bikers costumes and pretending we were super cool! Well, actually we did look cool ;-P And last year we dressed up as Wizzard of Oz characters. In both cases, I needed to buy almost next to nothing to put the costume together.
How did I do it?
Well, by using and re-using what I already had. For the biker’s outfit, I simply wore my grey jeans, a black sweater and a jacket.
For the biker’s outfit, I simply wore my grey jeans, a black sweater and a jacket. My friend landed me a Fake Tattoo Sleeve to complete the look 🙂
I was Glinda, the good witch of the Wizzard of Oz, last year. I used a wedding dress I purchased for my wedding anniversary 3 years ago on Craiglist. It was a beautiful dress, and I paid $75 for it. Not bad for such a beautiful dress! For Halloween, I cut off the dress train as it was too long, and used the fabric to cover my shoulders (to kinda create those puffy sleeves Glinda had).
Unfortunately, these all happened before I started my blog, so I don’t have pictures of myself, but they are all in a group. Therefore, I am not sharing them here… sorry…
And as a family
Last year my hubby, Alan (our younger son), and I chose a Wild West theme for our family outfits. My husband was a Sheriff, I became a Saloon Girl, and Alan was a Cowboy. Honestly, we have just purchased a few accessories to “upgrade” what we already had at home and voila! All ready to have fun!
I purchased this dress for my wedding anniversary as well. It was also a Craiglist find. I paid $45 for it, and it has already paid off for so many uses I had for it! I still have plans for it, but, unfortunately, I have gained some weight lately, so I need to start exercising to be able to fit in it nicely… here is supposed to come a blushing emoji 🙂
Anyway, if you are not into “making-up” costumes or are just too busy to start working on a costume, you can find anything you may think of here. They offer a 20% off o f your first order! They ship to Canada too!
And don’t forget your little friends!

I wanted you to remember that sometimes you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have fun! Many times the dollar store finds can work out just perfectly. Also, check out your wardrobe and get more ideas from what you already have 😉 Don’t forget about the thrift stores and Craiglist options as well. Remember that black polka dot dress that I found on Craiglist? Or the wedding dress for Glinda costume? The point is to have fun and enjoy the holiday with your family and friends!
So creative! Thanks.
Thank you Catherine!
I love the western theme for your Halloween Costumes and that you all coordinate as a family!!
Thank you Miranda! It was so easy to find everything we needed for the theme 🙂 I wish I had a picture of my husband to show. We do have a few but they all have our friends on too…
I love the saloon girl dress Nat. And my pet’s have costumes too 🙂
Awe. That is so cute, Deneen! Pets look so funny with the costumes 🙂 And, thank you! I love that dress too! 🙂
Cute costume & decor ideas that are free or not too expensive!
Thank you Misty! Many times we seem to forget that we can have fun and use what we already have 😉 When money is not an object then sure, go ahead and buy the best you can get. But if you are on a budget, you can definitely improvise and make up something and still enjoy the holiday! 🙂
